Eduardo Fraifeld is Director of Southern Pain Society
DANVILLE, VA - (December 23, 2006) - Eduardo M. Fraifeld, M.D. of the Danville Regional Pain Referral Center has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Southern Pain Society.
Dr. Fraifeld has practiced pain medicine and anesthesiology at Danville Regional Medical Center since l998. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Pain Medicine.
The Southern Pain Center is a regional section of the American Pain Society, a professional organization devoted to advancing research and treatment and to increasing the knowledge and skill of professionals in pain management.
Dr. Fraifeld has also received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Academy of Pain Medicine.
Physicians who manage pain are frequently anesthesiologists. Many techniques used to make surgery and childbirth virtually painless are now being used to relieve other types of pain," said Dr. Fraifeld. "That has created a new category of medicine called pain medicine."
Pain medicine doctors are experts at diagnosing why patients have pain, as well as treating the pain itself. Some of the more common pain problems they mange include arthritis, back and neck pain, cancer pain, nerve pain, migraine headaches and shingles.
Dr. Fraifeld established the Danville Regional Pain Clinic. "We have an excellent safety record and coordinate the care of patients with their physicians in the Danville area," he noted.
Dr. Fraifeld earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Houston Health Science Center. His Surgical Internship was at Louisiana State University Medical Center, and his residency in anesthesiology was at Vanderbilt University Hospital.
