Danville Regional Appoints New CEO

Seasoned health care executive brings 28 years of experience

Danville, Va. (Oct. 2, 2007)—Jerel Humphrey has been named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Danville Regional Medical Center (DRMC) effective October 29.  The announcement was made today by Betty Jo Foster, Ed. D., Chairman of the DRMC Board of Trustees.

Humphrey, 52, has a proven track record of building teams, fostering strong physician relations and strategic planning.  In his most recent role, Humphrey led a 72-bed, physician-owned, acute care hospital in Houston from its initial development to construction and through the accreditation process by the Joint Commission and the Texas health department.  For 20 years prior to that, he served in a variety of executive roles within the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston, Texas, including CEO of 600-bed Memorial Hermann Southwest and 520-bed Memorial Hermann City Hospital.

“I’m excited about the opportunities that await me at DRMC,” Humphrey said. “On the occasions I’ve had to visit the staff and physicians and explore the community, I have been very impressed with everyone and the area.  DRMC is a great community resource, and I plan to help advance the hospital within the community and the region.

“I know my family and I will enjoy the Dan River region,” Humphrey said.  “I plan to move my wife, Linda, and daughter, Rachel, here during the Christmas break.”

“We have been extremely impressed by Jerel’s background and his results-oriented philosophy,” Foster said.  “He is ready to roll up his sleeves and provide what we believe will be excellent overall leadership and direction at DRMC.”

Ruth McDaniel, interim CEO of DRMC, said, “Jerel comes with the experience that will lead the facility forward. He has exceptional skills that will be recognized and appreciated by the physicians, associates, volunteers and chaplains, as well as the greater community.”

Dr. Richard Smith, DRMC Chief of Staff, said, “I am looking forward to having Jerel join our team.  He brings a wealth of experience that will benefit all associated with DRMC.”

Humphrey received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indian and his Masters in Health Care Administration from George Washington University in Washington D.C.
