Another example of LifePoint’s Commitment
DANVILLE, VA - (June 23, 2007) - Construction is underway to build out the 6th floor of the Landon Wyatt, Jr. Tower at Danville Regional Medical Center.
The State Department of Health has granted the Medical Center a Certificate of Need to complete the 6th floor of the Tower. Earlier this year, the Medical Center opened the 5th floor. The cost of the two projects is approximately $10 million.
The 6th floor contains 17,500 square feet and will accommodate up to 46 patients. It will also include nursing stations and offices for clinical employees. The patient rooms will be 325 square feet, much larger than the rooms they will replace in an older part of the hospital.
When the project is completed this fall, it will mark the first time that the 6th floor will have been used. The six-story tower was opened in 1997.
Completion of the 5th and 6th floors of the Tower was a commitment made by LifePoint Hospitals, Inc. as a condition of the sale of Danville Regional. “This is another significant investment in improving the environment for quality patient care,” said Betty Jo Foster, Chair of Board of Trustees.
She added that Danville Regional is investing more than $25 million in 2006-07 in improvements throughout the Medical Center. The Radiation Oncology Building currently is being expanded and new technology being acquired to enhance treatment of cancer patients.
Another benefit of the 6th floor project is the impact on the economy of the Danville area. All subcontractors in the Danville area who bid on jobs for the project were selected, reports Foster. “We anticipate that some new jobs will be created from the project, and materials and supplies will be purchased in the Danville area as well,” she said.
Danville subcontractors selected are:
Piedmont Glass of Danville, glass, glazing and automatic entrances
J.W. Squire Co. of Danville, tile, resilient flooring and carpeting
Riverview Plumbing & Heating of Hurt, mechanical and plumbing
Wise-Hundley Electric Company of Danville, electrical systems
Collins Brothers Cabinets of Danville, case work for nursing stations and patient rooms
The general contractor is Skanska USA Building, Inc., the successor to Beers Construction. Beers was the contractor for the Wyatt Tower. Skanska is a large contractor with extensive hospital construction experience.
The Tower is named for Landon Wyatt, Jr., who served on the Board of Directors of the Medical Center for 30 years, 24 years as chairman.
