Danville Regional Director of Medical Education Honored

Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension Control recognizes Michael A. Moore, M.D.

DANVILLE, VA., Oct. 15, 2007 - Danville Regional Medical Center’s Director of Medical Education, Michael A. Moore, M.D., FACP, FAHA, was recently honored by the Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension Control for his extensive work with cardiovascular preventative care. This recognition was received during the meeting of the Inter-American Society of Hypertension in Miami Beach, Fla.

As the recipient of the Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension Control Leadership Award, Dr. Moore was selected from physicians across the Southeast as a leader in reducing the risk of hypertension-related diseases of the heart and blood vessels.

“Dr. Moore’s cardiovascular expertise and effective communication skills are a valuable asset to our hospital,” said Ruth McDaniel, interim CEO of DRMC. “Dr. Moore has taught many of Danville Regional’s physicians, medical students and health professionals. His continuing support is equally appreciated.”

Since 1994, Dr. Moore has served as the Director of Continuing Medical Education at Danville Regional, leading the program to Medical Society of Virginia honors. He is also chair of the Danville Regional Health Foundation Board.

For more than 30 years, Dr. Moore has served as a Clinical Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, where he received the Teaching Excellence Award in 1979.

The American Heart Association selected Dr. Moore as the Physician of the Year in 2004. He serves as a member of the Association’s Council for High Blood Pressure Research Leadership Committee and chairs the Council’s Professional and Public Education Committee.

Dr. Moore’s leadership experience also extends to the American Diabetes Association, where he has served as a medical educator and member of the National Research Grant Review Panel.

Dr. Moore is a member of the editorial boards of the American Journal of Medical Sciences, the Journal of Clinical Hypertension and Clinical Therapeutics. He serves as a consultant for the National High Blood Pressure Education Program and participated in the preparation of the National Institute of Health’s fourth through seventh Joint National Committee Reports on the Detection and Management of Hypertension, which are recognized as the leading guidelines for the management of high blood pressure.
