Gift Made in Honor of Medical Staff.
DANVILLE, VA - (April 30, 2007) - Danville Regional Medical Center has donated $2,500 to Doves, Inc., the shelter for domestic violence and sexual assault in the region.
The money will go into the general fund of DOVES to be used at the discretion of the organization. DOVES provides a 24-hour confidential hotline for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, they offer a companion to assist victims in the legal and medical process, support groups, counseling and education services.
Annually, the Medical Center donates money in honor of physicians at Danville Regional. More than 140 physicians are members of the Medical Staff. The selection of a charity is made by the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff. The Free Clinic of Danville and God's Storehouse are past recipients of the donation.
"Physicians are aware of the essential service that DOVES provides our community in a time of real crisis in the lives of residents," said Richard Smith, MD, Chief of the Medical Staff. "We hope this donation will strengthen DOVES' ability to meet the need in the community for services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault."
Brenda Ferrell, Development Director of DOVES, said the organization is "deeply grateful for the financial support of the Medical Center. We have a close relationship with Danville Regional in taking care of these people. Such a partnership improves the quality of healthcare and the lives of friends and neighbors who are unfortunate victims of domestic violence and sexual assault."
