Danville Regional Medical Center Emergency Department Director Richard Smith, M.D., was recently honored for his outstanding leadership by TeamHealth, the nation’s largest provider of emergency department staffing and management services.
DANVILLE, VA., Oct. 10, 2007 - Danville Regional Medical Center Emergency Department Director Richard Smith, M.D., was recently honored for his outstanding leadership by TeamHealth, the nation’s largest provider of emergency department staffing and management services.
As recipient of the Medical Director Award, Smith was selected among physicians employed by 38 emergency departments across Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia. The national TeamHealth Medical Director of the Year will be announced later this month.
“Dr. Smith has championed tremendous improvements that have impacted the quality of medical care,” sad Dr. John Staley, president of Emergency Coverage Corporation (ECC) of TeamHealth. “We also take pride in our relationship with Danville Regional Medical Center and congratulate their leadership in our shared mission to provide quality medical care to the community.”
Dr. Smith has practiced at Danville Regional since 1990, and became the emergency department director in 2003. Approximately 3,330 patients were seen in the emergency department last month, with more than 35,000 patients treated last year.
