Womanless Beauty Pageant Raise Funds for Habitat House.
DANVILLE, VA - (May 1, 2007) - Employees of Danville Regional Medical Center are staging a "Womanless Beauty Pageant" to raise funds for the Habitat for Humanity home they are building.
The pageant will be held at 7 p.m. May 11 at Langston Focus Center in Danville. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children.
Employees are raising $30,000 to buy supplies for the home, which is under construction at 919 Riverview Street. They also are volunteering to build the home. Danville Regional already has donated $30,000 toward the cost of the foundation for the home.
Four departments of the Medical Center have joined together to sponsor the pageant: environmental services, laundry services, maintenance and security.
In addition to five contestants who are employees of the Medical Center, there will be a mystery contestant. The ticket holder who correctly guesses the identity of the mystery contestant will receive $500. The five employee contestants are Ricky McCullough, environmental services, David Rust, environmental services, Robert Leigh, maintenance, Henry Willard, volunteer services and Duane Williams, environmental services.
The contestants' opening act will be a group dance, then they will participate in casual wear competition, demonstrate their talent, participate in evening gown competition and be interviewed by judges, who will choose a winner. A dance will follow the contest. Varied entertainment is also scheduled between different segments of the pageant. There will be door prizes and a 50/50 raffle.
The Habitat House is under construction at 919 Riverview Street. It is intended to be a catalyst for the redevelopment in the Lee Street neighborhood. The residence will become the home of Clifton and Sherrine Johns and their four children ranging from 5 to 9 years of age.
