Danville Regional Hosts Photographic Exhibit of Local Newborns

Danville Regional Medical Center (DRMC) and Bobby Carlsen, PPA certified photographer and owner of the Bobby Carlsen Photography studio, recently held a photographic exhibit of local newborns for their parents and guests.

The exhibit, entitled, “Whispers and the Joy of New Beginnings,” displayed more than 40 images of babies born in the area, the majority being born at DRMC.  Most photographed babies were born during the first quarter of 2011, while some babies were photographed three years ago as part of Carlsen’s portfolio.

In the beginning, representatives from DRMC’s Women’s & Children’s Center came to Carlsen about producing art to help with the renovation of the unit.  Carlsen worked with the department, eventually developing the idea of baby art to help transform the space to have more of a maternal feel.

Each image is accompanied by a quotation regarding motherhood or children in an effort to evoke strong emotion and connect parents with their own children.

“These photographs connect to the maternal experience, as well as serve as inspiration to people remembering their own childhoods,” said Carlsen.  “It was great working with the parents regarding this project.  I’m thankful to DRMC for allowing me to partner with them to connect members of the community to this hospital in a positive way.”

One mother revealed her gratitude for the DRMC staff members who made her and her husband’s time at the hospital pleasant and comfortable.

“I could not be more thrilled with my experience at DRMC with the birth of my son.  The nurses in labor and delivery, the nursery and the women’s unit, as well as the lactation consultant were beyond exceptional!” said Emily Reynolds, mother of one of the infants featured in the exhibit.  “We are fortunate to have such a fantastic team of doctors, nurses and hospital personnel in our community.”

The images will be showcased during the Women’s & Children’s Services Department open house on May 7, and will hang throughout the unit on a permanent basis.

In addition to the newborn exhibit, Carlsen previously photographed images of Danville’s dedicated emergency team members that currently hang in DRMC’s Emergency Department.  He also recently finished a project of restoring and reproducing images of the hospital throughout the years dating back to the 1800s.  Those reproduced images, which were donated by the local Historical Society, now hang in DRMC’s Business Center.
