Eric Deaton comes from Wytheville
Danville, VA - Feb. 24, 2010—Danville Regional Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Frank Campbell today announced Eric Deaton as the new Chief Executive Officer at Danville Regional Medical Center. Most recently, Deaton was the CEO of Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville, VA.
“Eric begins his new duties at Danville Regional on Monday. I am looking forward to working with Eric in his new role,” Dr. Campbell said. “His community involvement and keen wealth of experience in hospital operations will make him a good fit in Danville. In his previous job, Eric oversaw the renovation/expansion of the Emergency Department as well as the development of an urgent care center,” Campbell said.
“He also was very involved in his community serving on the Southwest Virginia Emergency Services Council, and as the Vice President of the Wytheville Wythe Bland Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Committee and as a Lay Minister and Chairman of Pastoral Relations for the St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was also active with the March of Dimes, Boy Scouts of America Leadership Council and Rotary Club, and we expect his level of community participation will continue with his new responsibilities at Danville Regional,” Campbell added.
Deaton has worked for taxpaying and non taxpaying hospitals during his career. He is known for his expertise in recruiting physicians, collaborating with internal teams as well as community teams to improve the health and wellness of all in the community. He also serves as a Fellow for the American College of Healthcare Executives.
“The Dan River community is fortunate to be gaining such an impressive, well-regarding, hard-working leader as Eric Deaton,” said Wythe County Community Hospital Board Chairman Travis Jackson. “While we are saddened by his departure, he leaves our hospital in a better place for his tireless efforts in working with our physicians and associates, nurturing strong relationships with our community and creating an environment where people want to practice medicine here, they want to be a part of the hospital’s team and feel good about sending family to our hospital.”
“Joining the DRMC team is a wonderful opportunity,” Deaton said. “I’m looking forward to working with talented associates, getting to know the dedicated physicians, volunteers and chaplains. I’m a firm believer in rolling up my sleeves, getting to know our internal team as well as everyone in the community and helping advance the hospital’s mission of providing healthcare excellence close to home. There are many great advances occurring at DRMC with the affiliations with Duke Medicine in our cardiac program and educating future physicians through the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine’s residency program as well as in the radiation oncology center and the laboratory.”
“Virginia is home, and I’m looking forward to creating long-lasting relationships in Danville and becoming involved in the community,” Deaton added.
Deaton received his B.S. in Business Administration from Milligan College in Milligan, Tenn. and his Masters in Business Administration from Bristol College in Bristol, Tenn. He is married to Rives Deaton. A public reception to meet Deaton and his family is scheduled for March 4 from 5:30 - 6:30 at the Stratford Courtyard Conference Center.
