Danville Regional Medical Center Hires Director for New Program

DANVILLE, Va. (April. 2, 2010) - Dr. Heidi Morris has been named the Director of Medical Education for the Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine Program at Danville Regional Medical Center. In this position, Dr. Morris will oversee the training of 18 family medicine physician residents from Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM).

“We are pleased to have Dr. Morris on our staff as we continue providing residency programs to not only the family medicine residents, but as we expand our program to include 15 internal medicine residents a year for the next three years,” said Danville Regional CEO Eric Deaton.  “This is one more way Danville Regional is committed to helping educate our future healthcare providers.”

These residents will help provide quality healthcare to underserved areas in the Dan River region and beyond. Dr. Morris is board certified in Family Medicine and holds a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration. She has previously led doctor of osteopathy residency programs serving as both program director and overall residency director of medical education.

“Being a part of the medical education team at Danville Regional is a great opportunity,” said Dr. Morris.  “The passion I have for the advancement of osteopathic medicine will continue the solid foundation and commitment the medical education program already has in place.”

Dr. Morris received her education and certifications in her native Ohio. She has previously served as an assistant dean for the Northwest CORE of Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, served on eight field-related committees, and is affiliated with the American Osteopathic Association, American Academy of Family Physicians and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.

“We are pleased to welcome such a talented and dedicated physician to lead our program at Danville Regional,” said Dr. Michael Moore, director of medical education. “Dr. Morris’ vast experience in osteopathic medicine will be a huge asset to our medical education program.”

Dr. Morris has Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.

Danville Regional is the leading medical center in the Dan River Region of Virginia and North Carolina, providing open heart surgery and advanced cancer treatment. Approximately 140 physicians are on the medical staff. The medical center employs approximately 1,200 people.
