Danville Regional Medical Center’s cardiac care partner among nation’s elite heart programs

DURHAM, N.C. - A prestigious annual hospital survey has rated Danville Regional Medical Center’s (DRMC) cardiac care affiliate, Duke University Medical Center, as the No. 7 heart program in the country.

The Duke Heart Center rose two spots in the 2011-12 Best Hospital ranking by U.S. News and World Reports, up from the No. 9 position last year.

“Our affiliation with Duke Heart Network enhances the quality of care provided at Danville Regional Medical Center, and allows our patients to receive outstanding cardiac care close to home,” said DRMC CEO Eric Deaton.  “We are proud of this affiliation and to be able to have Duke physicians such as Dr. William Sweezer, providing the talent and expertise of a nationally recognized program,” Deaton added.

Danville Regional and Duke have worked together since 2008 as part of the Duke Heart Network, a collaborative service that works with local hospitals such as Danville Regional to expand specialized cardiac programs and provide patients in the Danville area the best cardiovascular care possible.

The collaboration builds on the excellence of both programs to provide cutting-edge therapies and services as close to home as possible.

Dr. Harry R. Phillips III, chief medical officer of the Duke Heart Network, said Duke values its affiliation with Danville Regional Medical Center, which has long demonstrated its commitment to quality, safety and clinical excellence.

“Our affiliations create the highest quality care locally, while providing seamless access to the No. 1 heart center in the Southeast here at Duke when patients need it,” Phillips said. “It’s a simple concept - provide the best care for patients in the right place.”

The Danville Regional Heart Center at Danville Regional Medical Center is a Duke Medicine-affiliated heart program providing cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, as well as diagnostic and interventional procedures with support for program development and quality oversight from the Duke Heart Center.

With more than 700 expert faculty and staff, the Duke Heart Center operates the world’s largest cardiovascular MRI program, the country’s top congestive heart failure program, and the largest heart transplant, adult valve disease and congenital heart disease programs in the Southeast.
