Danville Regional Recognized For Heart Program

Only Two Hospitals in Virginia
DANVILLE, VA - (March 20, 2007) - Danville Regional Medical Center is one of only 173 hospitals across the United States to be recognized for the quality improvement in its heart program.

Danville Regional has successfully completed a voluntary program to ensure that the care for heart attacks and heart failure is aligned with the latest scientific guidelines. The program is sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. Danville Regional is one of only two hospitals in Virginia to be recognized for completing the program.

"Participating in voluntary quality improvement initiatives such as this program gives us a head start in applying the latest guidelines for care of our patients," said Michael A. Moore, MD. "This is one more example of the commitment of Danville Regional and the Medical Staff to excellent heart care."

The joint program of the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association helps hospitals provide the best possible treatment to heart disease and stroke patients. Called "Get with the Guidelines," the program compiles extensive research, converts it into guidelines for treatment and helps hospitals adhere to them. The program enables caregivers to treat heart and stroke patients consistently according to the most up-to-date guidelines.

"Danville Regional chose participation in this program to achieve national standards of care for our cardiac and stroke patients. Feedback from the American Hospital Association helps Danville Regional learn how to make improvements. Our goal is for our patients to live longer, healthier lives," said Jamye Wright, RN, BSM, Nurse Manger for Cardiovascular Services.

Danville Regional is continuing to participate in this program.
