Danville Regional’s Auxillary Awards Scholarships
20 People Entering Health Field
DANVILLE, VA (May 15, 2006) - The Auxiliary of Danville Regional Medical Center has awarded $15,000 in scholarships to 20 people who are entering the health field.
Many recipients are children of employees of the Medical Center, but a few are for employees. The winners were honored by the Auxiliary at a reception today.
The recipients apply for scholarships. The amount of aid they receive is based on need, said Neal Dodson of Ringgold, chair of the scholarship committee. The recipients include:

- Joshua Beach, Westover Christian - Campbell University
- Katherine Bennett, Richmond Senior High - Danville Community College
- Leigh Boswell, Chatham High School - School of Nursing, Danville Regional
- Matthew Brumfield, Tunstall High School - School of Radiology, Danville Regional
- Whitney Chattin, Dan River High School - School of Nursing, Danville Regional
- Katherine Dickerson, Employee at Danville Regional - School of Radiology, Danville Regional
- Michael Farley, George Washington High School - School of Nursing, Danville Regional
- Lisa Harper, Employee at Danville Regional - Danville Community College
- Barbara Jones, Employee at Danville Regional - School of Nursing, Danville Regional
- Ashley Keatts, Tunstall High School - School of Radiology, Danville Regional
- Amber Khan, George Washington High School - University of North Carolina

"As Auxilliarians, we are proud that we can make a contribution to people entering the healthcare field," said Beverly Buxton of Danville, president of the Auxilliary. "We are hopeful that the individuals will return to our Medical Center for their employment in the future."
Last year, Douglas Lewis, Jr., the Salutatorian at George Washington High School, received a scholarship. He now is a freshman at the University of Virginia studying pre-med. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Lewis, both of whom work at the Medical Center.
The Auxiliary operates the Gift Shop at the Medical Center and raises money from the sale of jewelry, uniforms, books and bath and beauty aides. The Auxiliary also receives money from the operation of the Snack Shop and Coffee Cart at the Medical Center.
