Danville Regional’s Diagnostic Imaging Center Acquires New Equipment

The Danville Diagnostic Imaging Center (DDIC) recently invested more than $2 million in a CT scanner and MRI unit to provide patients faster and more efficient imaging and scanning.

DDIC’s Computed Tomography (CT) scanner was improved from a 4-slice scanner to a 16-slice CT scanner, allowing for higher quality imaging and clearer samples for a more accurate diagnosis.  It also performs faster scanning so each patient’s examination time is reduced.  CT scans offer a clearer view of scanned anatomy and reveal more details than normal x-ray exams.

A new wide-bore MRI unit will also provide faster and more efficient scanning.  The newly acquired equipment also accommodates larger patients.  Without using x-rays, the MRI services use a large magnet, radio waves and a computer to produce imaging of all portions of the anatomy.

“These upgrades illustrate our commitment to providing the safest, most advanced quality care to the Dan River region,” said Danville Regional CEO Eric Deaton.  “The new equipment offers a better experience for the patient.”

DDIC, which is owned by Danville Regional Medical Center, also received new service line applications during this time, including breast MRI and peripheral non-invasive vascular testing.  The peripheral non-invasive vascular testing examines arteries and veins for blockages that can cause strokes.

“This was a serious investment of diagnostic tools,” said DDIC Director Debra Parrish.  “We are thankful to Danville Regional for investing in this acquisition and providing more technologically advanced equipment to DDIC, allowing us to better serve our patients.”

All DDIC radiologists are board-certified by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Osteopathic Physicians.  The radiologic technologists are licensed by the Virginia Department of Health and registered with their designated advanced credentialing agency.  Sonographers are also registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

The CT, MRI and digital mammography services at DDIC are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).  The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of its practice.

DDIC also offers invasive vascular testing of the carotid arteries, venous system and extremities, which are accredited by the Intersocietial Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories.
DDIC provides additional services, including diagnostic radiology services and general sonography, or ultrasound services.

Originally owned and operated by Danville Radiologists, Inc., DDIC began provided services in 1991.  The imaging center was later sold to Danville Regional in 2002.

Danville Regional is the leading medical center in the Dan River Region of Virginia and North Carolina, providing open heart surgery, spinal surgery and advanced cancer treatment.  Approximately 140 physicians are on the medical staff.  The medical center employs approximately 1,200 people.  For additional information, visit http://www.danvilleregional.com.
