Dr. Richard Embrey and Dr. Gary Miller Live on WBBT

Drs. Richard Embrey and Gary Miller were interviewed live on WBBT 1330 on Tuesday morning, July 29.

Dr. Embrey spoke about cardiac surgery, being in the operating room and interacting with his patients.  He said when he first started his career; the operating room was what excited him the most. He went on to say, “The operations are cool and of course fun, but they are not what drives me anymore.” Dr. Embrey said today his joy comes from the interaction he has with his patients.  He spoke about the connection he is able to form with the patients and their families and to him, that is the most important part of his job.

Dr. Miller went on to discuss the emotional component that is associated with surgery, especially post operation.  He explained the type of emotions patients typically experience after they have had a major surgery such as an open heart procedure.  Some of the feelings a patient can experience are depression, loss of appetite, and loss of sleep.

Both Dr. Embrey and Dr. Miller agreed that the hardest part of post surgery for patients is learning how to live healthier lives; including eating better, getting more exercise and for the most part being aware of your body and learning what it needs to stay healthy.
