DRMC Inpatient Rehab Unit Honored as Top Performer

DANVILLE, VA., May 8, 2008--Danville Regional Medical Center’s Inpatient Rehablitation unit recently recieved the “Top Performer Award” from Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSMR), the world’s largest medical rehabilitation database.  For the second year in a row, DRMC ranked within the top 99th percentile among 804 inpatient rehabilitation units across the United States.

“We take pride in the work we do in the DRMC Inpatient Rehab program,” said Jane Lewis, BSN, RN, DRMC Impatient Rehab program director.  “We appreciate this recognition and will continue to improve, as we did this year with an even higher score than 2007.”

Since 1992, the licensed and certified professionals of DRMC’s Inpatient Rehab unit have provided comprehensive care in physical, occupational and speech therapy.  This 10-bed unit treats patients with impaired mobility and balance, cognitive and perceptual deficits, and speech and communication deficits, among other conditions.

“This recent award solidifies our Inpatient Rehab unit’s continuous efforts to provide the very best service,” said DRMC CEO Jerel Humphrey.  “We’re proud of our rehabilitation program and the associates who help make it a success.”

The DRMC Inpatient Rehab unit successfully discharged 129 patients in 2007.  The Inpatient Rehab team of professionals includes a physiatrist, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, rehab nurses, case coordinator, program director, a social worker and a dietician.

Danville Regional is the leading medical center in the Dan River Region of Virginia and North Carolina.  Approximately 140 physicians are on the medical staff.  The medical center employs approximately 1,200 people.
