Dr. Jim Pigg and Dr. Sammie Gibson have joined Piedmont Women’s Health Specialist - a new OB/GYN clinic offering patients the latest technology in ultrasound equipment.
Patients will benefit from 3D/4D ultrasound technology, the first of its kind in the region. The machine produces higher quality pictures and is also used for enhanced visualization of uterine and ovarian abnormalities.
The 4D component improves physicians’ work with pregnant patients, enabling them to view the fetus and all its anatomy in live action view. This enhanced element allows for better assessment of fetal movement patterns and internal anatomy. It is covered under all insurance policies in the United States.
“We were introduced to Danville through our friend Dr. Brett Akers,” said Dr. Sammie Gibson. “We fell in love with the area and were very impressed with the hospital and their mission statements. We couldn’t be happier with our decision.”
Dr. Jim Pigg earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky and was most recently, with Women’s Health Specialists through the Pikeville Methodist Hospital and working with the Pikeville Osteopathic School in Kentucky. Dr. Pigg is a member of a number of professional organizations including the Cincinnati Academy of Medicine, Ohio State Medical Association and the American Medical Association.
Prior to Danville, Dr. Sammie Gibson worked with the Women’s Health Specialists of Appalachia and as an assistant professor of Ob/Gyn Pikeville Osteopathic School of Medicine (PCSOM). She received an award for Clinical Faculty of the Year in 2008 and the Resident Research award in 2006. Dr. Gibson was chief resident in the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program at East Tennessee University.
“The community of Danville is now leading the region in technology with the latest addition of the 3D/4D ultrasound,” said Jerel Humphrey, DRMC CEO. “We are proud to welcome Drs. Pigg and Gibson to our home and I know they will be an invaluable asset to the hospital and the residents of this region.”
