Orthopedic Eductation Program Launched

Free Seminar August 8 at Danville Regional Medical Center

DANVILLE, VA - (July 30, 2006) - Danville Orthopedic Clinic and Danville Regional Medical Center have partnered to develop an educational program on orthopedic care.

The Orthopedic Clinic, founded in l948, provides a complete range of orthopedic services, including surgery. The Clinic has four physicians on its staff that also provide care for orthopedic patients at Danville Regional Medical Center.

"We believe the community should be informed about orthopedic care and understand the range of services available here in the Dan River region," said Art Doloresco, CEO of Danville Regional Medical Center.

The community is invited to a series of seminars called BodyTalk, presented by the physicians of the Orthopedic Clinic. There will be one seminar monthly for the next four months. Each is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

The first seminar will be held at 5:30 p.m., August 8 in the Dining Room of the Medical Center. Jonathan Krome, M.D., will speak on sports medicine. Krome is the only physician in the Danville area to complete a Fellowship in Sports Medicine. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He is Board certified in Orthopedic Surgery.

"Sports injuries occur to all of us, no matter whether we play sports," said Krome. "With the technology and treatment methods available today, patients often can return to pre-injury function and continue their activities," Krome said.

As the team physician for the Danville Braves, George Washington High School and Averett University, Krome has treated a variety of injuries.

"Football season is around the corner," Krome noted. "We hope football coaches at all levels will attend BodyTalk. There is no substitute for coaches on the field having basic knowledge of orthopedic injuries."

Cathy Shelton, Physician Services Manager, is coordinating the educational program, which includes newspaper and radio advertisements on the topics that will be presented at BodyTalk. "Working with physicians at the Orthopedic Clinic, Danville Regional provides surgical services that enable patients to recover and rehabilitate their injuries," she said. "We work closely with physicians to enable them to have the equipment and specialized staff to support their care for patients."

Stuart J. Kramer, M. D., Mark C. Hermann, M. D., and Joseph Campbell, M.D. also are physicians at Danville Orthopedic Clinic. Orthopedics involves the diagnosis and treatment of disorders and injuries to bones, joints, tendons, muscles, ligaments and nerves.

The seminar is open to the public at no charge, however, reservations are requested. Call (430) 799-WELL to register.

Danville Regional is the leading Medical Center in the Dan River Region of Virginia and North Carolina, providing open heart surgery and advanced cancer treatment. Approximately 140 physicians are on the Medical Staff. The Medical Center employs approximately 1,540 people.
