DANVILLE, VA., Dec. 20, 2007 - Danville Regional Medical Center School of Health Professions Radiologic Technology Program recently received full accreditation from the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
The DRMC Radiologic Technology Program provides students with the skills necessary to develop into competent, professional radiologic technologists. Radiologic technologists are medical personnel who perform imaging examinations and administer radiation therapy treatments.
The DRMC Radiologic Technology Program received the maximum duration of eight years of accreditation, as evaluated according to the Standards for an Accredited Educational Program in Radiologic Sciences.
Program students rotate through five clinical sites: Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville Diagnostic Imaging Center, Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County, Morehead Memorial Hospital and the Wright Diagnostic Center in Eden, N.C. Students’ radiologic sciences education includes radiation safety, anatomy and basic patient care.
According to JRCERT Chair H. Martin Northup, M.D., FACR, “Specialized accreditation awarded by the JRCERT offers institutions significant value by providing peer evaluation and by assuring the public of quality professional education in radiologic sciences.”
The JRCERT is the only agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for the accreditation of educational programs in radiograph and radiation therapy.
“We select the best qualified applicants each year,” said Program Director Kevin Murray, MS Ed, RT(R)(QM). “We will soon begin 2008 with 32 students.”
The Radiologic Technology Program began in 2003.
